Cestello Annunciation 1489-1490, Sandro Botticelli

  We have looked at several paintings of the Annunciation as this was a popular theme of this period. We compared and contrasted this painting with the previous ones we have seen.
Don't you just love the colors in this one?

We also  learned about contour lines  or the outside edges in a drawing and then took a look at the ones in this painting. Notice the texture of the edges of the wings, the folds in the cloth. These are starting to show so much more texture than previous paintings.

We then practiced making our own contour lines.
