One Small Square: Woods-Maple Tree

Today we added a Maple tree to the Woods Mural. We also learned about Blue Jays. They colored pictures of them and cut them out as well as listened to their bird calls from The Backyard Birdsong Guide. This book is really neat because it is not only a bird guide but it has a button you can press and hear each of the bird's calls. For the Blue Jay, they had three examples of the different calls they make and we all agreed that we had heard that call before and just didn't know it was the Blue Jay. We will be on the lookout now for the Blue Jay when we hear those calls.

We made the trunk and limbs by making bark rubbings of the trees and painting watercolor over it. We attached some of the Maple leaves we had waxed to the mural.
