An Unexpected Surprise

Halloween is such a busy day for us. Between costumes, carving pumpkins and other festivities we always are super busy. This year had the sad addition of a funeral of a dear friend.
So, we never got our mail out of the mailbox until after the boys had finished trick or treating.
They brought in a mysterious white envelope marked...
We opened it to find...
a cotton plant with raw cotton! It also came with this note...

My first thought was that we could do Alabama again, but the boys thought maybe we could do the state when we talked more about the cotton crops before the Civil War, or perhaps when we did the Cotton Gin, I added.
We could also do a nature study on it since the plant is still attached.
There are so many possibilities...so I am sure you will be seeing it again!

Thank you, my friends, Karen and Kei at Homeschool Girls.

  3. Oh Phyllis, I am so glad you liked it! Hmmm maybe I could start a 'Send Cotton to Homeschoolers" Program. It's funny how we take things for granted. I have seen cotton all my life. ENJOY!

  5. Aww, I know I've thought.. "man!! They've already done Alabama." That was so sweet of her. We took pictures in a cotton field recently, when we went to the pumpkin patch. It's odd how you can almost take something for granted that someone else has never had the opportunity to see. That was a great idea she had!
