Unexpected Nature Study at the Beach

| It was just an average family afternoon at the beach for us. |

| The water is still a little cold yet, so we are not swimming in earnest. |

| and then we had an unexpected guest at our little beach party.., |

| a visit by a water snake! |
 |
| I think it is a Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon), but I am not positive. We observed and talked about him as much as we could at the beach and sketched him from our memories, and looked him up in our field guides once we got home. |
