"Let us strive to make each moment beautiful."
Saint Francis DeSales
painting by Katie Bergenholtz

"Where a castle was raised a town began."

Katie worked with the little boys... helping them put together all the things they have learned about castles... and sand castle making. Building Towers
Building Walls
Quentin decided to add a stable within the castle walls...which showed that he understood that a castle includes a small town within its walls...
and not just the keep within.

All they need now is some catapults.

Katie has also been busy making chessmen for the boys. They have learned how to move the pawns, and the rooks, and the kings, so she has made them those pieces.
Each week as we focus on a piece at a time, she will make them... until eventually they will have a complete set.

  1. I love the way you've been using the sand castles to reinforce the lessons.

  3. Wonderful chess pieces!! My dd (14 next month) is obsessed with chess boards/pieces. She wants to buy every one she sees. This is a great idea...perhaps she will be inspired to make her own :)
