Form I: How the Stars Show Direction
First we reviewed last week's concepts and had them put up posters representing sunrise and sunset in the correct directions. Then I asked them how sailors could tell direction
when the sun was not up. Sam suggested the stars, so then we talked about Polaris, or the North Star. They put up a poster of Polaris on our north wall. We also took small pieces of black construction paper and poked holes in it to represent the stars of the Big Dipper, the constellation that contains Polaris. They added these to their notebooks.
