Georgia O'Keeffe's Southern Cross

Georgia O'Keeffe made a series of painting featuring the desert. Most of them feature dry bones in the desert or some combination of flowers, desert and bones. We found most of them pretty morbid, so we settled on her Southern Cross painting. Since we had already been talking about star constellations in Geography, this fit in nicely for this week. We noted that she had interesting gradations of color in her sky. I encouraged them to use this in their watercolor pictures.
