Georgia O'Keefe: Blue Morning Glories & Glue Relief with Chalk Pastels

We began our study of the artist, Georgia O'Keeffe today by looking at her flower paintings. In particular we examined her painting Blue Morning Glories and noticed the fact that she painted flowers really close-up and cropped the so that not all of the flower is in the painting. This encourages the viewer to look at the shapes, contours and the blending of colors that exists in nature

Step 1: Draw a flower on black paper using white glue instead of a pencil or marker. Leave 24 hours to dry. When dry this leaves the clear glue lines, which show the black paper through it, and become black lines. This outlines the flower in nice, shiny black lines.

Step 2: Color in the spaces with colored chalk, Gel FX Crayons or chalk pastels. We used colored chalk and chalk pastels.
