Mexico


The Mayas and the Toltecs  Around 850 most of the Maya had moved north into the area known as the Yucatan. Meanwhile, in Mexico the Toltecs became powerful. In the 1100's invading tribes drove the Toltecs out of Mexican and into the Yucatan, where it seems as if they worked together peacefully.


We reviewed what we had learned about some of the explorers from Spain
Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo
 (1499 – 1543) was a Portuguese explorer noted for his exploration of the west coast of North America on behalf of Spain. Cabrillo was the first European explorer to navigate the coast of present day California in the United States. He helped found the city of Oaxaca, in Mexico

Mexican Culture
We learned some about the culture. This being Easter week, we learned that in Mexico there is a tradition of cracking confetti-filled eggs called "cascaas" (egg shells) on people's heads. 
Mexican "Teatime" with Cinnamon Cocoa
Sometimes called Mexican Hot Cocoa because of its popularity in Mexico, is easy to make by just adding 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon to your usual hot cocoa recipe.
