Shoes for Saint Nicholas

This year we made shoes for Saint Nicholas day.

Wrap the shoe you want to use for your form in plastic wrap so the Rigid Wrap does not stick to the shoe. Use no less than five layers, going in different directions, smoothing as you go.

Rigid Wrap says that five layers should dry in 20 minutes. It took overnight in our humid climate. The Rigid Wrap will need to split in order to get the shoe out. You will need to add additional layers at this seam once the shoe is out. Smooth layers and let dry. It shouldn't take quite so long this time.

Now you can paint them any way you like.
Once they dry...
you can fill them with carrots and hay and set them out for St. Nicholas.
The boys decided to give him a Christmas Tree cake.

  1. That's clever! I wonder if we could paper mache a shoe? I might have to try that - it would be better than putting treats in their actual, stinky little shoes :)

  2. That looks like loads of fun.

  3. WHat a wonderfully cute idea!

I'm with Leah, treats in stinky shoes is no fun.

  4. Oh my Gosh!! I love this idea! How do you find these things? Please let me into your brain and your computer for about a day. ;) This is so awesome. I don't think the reindeer would mind stinky feet but I think Santa might. ;)

  5. Great idea! I think it is so great that you have made this holiday a part of your family celebrations.

"Plaster shoes" who would have thought of that?

  6. What a great idea! We have never had a set St. Nicholas tradition, but, the few times we have set shoes out, I have thought that it seems somewhat unsanitary! ;) The kids would have so much fun with this.

  7. You are so creative!! Hope you had a beautiful feast of St. Nicholas!!

  8. So many memories...thanks for sharing!

  9. Shoes are TOTALLY cool! We had our stockings up last night and the boys got some fruit and a card game. So fun! I'd love to have shoes on St. Nick's day!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It means so much.
