Snapshot Summary May 28- June 3 {A Week of Birthdays}

Snapshot Summary, May28-June 3

Saturday
28
We celebrated Quentin's birthday first.
His birthday was really on the 18th, but he wanted to celebrate all summer birthdays this week, so we did.
This was birthday celebration I.
Monday
30
On Memorial Day Katie helped Quentin with a Limeade Stand.

and we celebrated Sam's 14th birthday, for birthday celebration II.
We went down to the beach briefly, but it was quite crowded, so we cooled off in other ways.
Tuesday
31
Alex completed a page for Brazil in our Postcard-Geography Album. I am afraid that between the heat and getting ready for the move, we have been not real enthusiastic for completing the extra touches on our projects. They are likely to be pretty plain here on out.
James had completed his Lego Quest garden this week.
We have been working on a sculpture project all this week.
All the kids went down to the beach with Steven this time.

Wednesday
1
With a heat index into the 100's and no air conditioning, we had to take a temporary break from school and focus on having some summer fun. We celebrated James' 10 1/2 birthday (he has a Christmas birthday so we celebrate 1/2 birthdays). This was birthday celebration III.  Fresh strawberry mini-cupcakes this time
The boys rode their bikes in the early morning before the heat was too intense, and then to Rita's cold treats, and then back down to the beach to swim.

Thursday
2
Today we finished up our bird sculptures. We found it to be a wonderful alternative to the nature journal for nature study because they had to closely look at the photos of the birds and note their beak shapes, wing shapes, tail shapes and body shapes. They also looked closely at the colorations to paint them. They each chose their favorite birds.
We learned about Newton's laws.

When we went to the beach this day, the winds were up and the waves were rough.

Friday
3
We learned about English Kings, Caviliers and Roundheads. We fought Star Wars battles.
We found interesting insects...

and saw beautiful sunsets.

Saturday
4
Katie's flower arrangements are so beautiful.
