Summer "Bucket" List: Make Coffee Can Stilts

To make stilts for little ones, all you need is two empty coffee cans per set of stilts and some rope.
Measure the distance from your child's foot to his knees, double that and then add about 5 inches. Cut your rope to this measurement.

Using a hammer and nail, make two holes on either side of the bottom of the coffee cans.

Thread the rope ends through the holes and tie the two ends under the coffee can and pull tight. Now they are ready for use.

It might take them a few minutes to figure out how to pull up on the rope for the leg they want to move.

They will take a few tumbles, too, so make sure they are safe.

  1. This is a classic - we're still playing with the ones we made last summer!

  2. I made one for my kid and they made them into drums. Though they might be old enough now
