Nature Study Lesson #82: The Black Cricket

"The crickets are among the most famous of the insect musicians. They live in the fields under stones and in burrows and feed upon grass and clover. As with most birds, only the male makes music; he has his wing covers developed into a mandolin or violin, which he plays to attract his mate and also for his own pleasure." -Handbook of Nature Study, page 347

While playing outside on our walkway Student Four found this cricket.  After watching it, he came inside and drew this picture for his nature journal.

Later in the week, he found another cricket and is fascinated about drawing accurate drawings in his nature journal. He took much longer this time. Look at the attention to detail.
