Today the boys played a game in which they practiced identifying who was on their right or left, who was in front of them and who was behind them. They were then asked to turn around in their seats and answer the same questions. Through a series of questions, they came to realize that left, right, front and back were of little use in telling the position of places and that some fixed standard of direction in necessary. This is an introduction to the concepts of cardinal directions.
