Best Mom Award

best mom award
On this Mother's Day I wanted to take a moment to celebrate a few really great moms that have inspired me and to tell them how much they mean to me.

Best Mom Award goes to...

Sylvia of Faith, Hope and Love. She is a mom of many and has demonstrated to me patience and love as she copes with the difficulties of raising a special needs child.

bluebonnets 2015 no Jeff
Ticia of Adventures in Mommydom. Ticia is such a fun mom, I sometimes wish I was her child!

My Photo
Leah of Almost Unschoolers. She is one of the kindest people I know. When she offered to send us a postcard from Montana, she sent five. When I asked if I could buy a handmade toy that she showed on her blog, she just sent me one as a gift. She has the most kind and giving heart I know.

Claire of Angelicscaliwags. Just one look at her beautiful family will show you the reflection of how wonderful a mother she is. I strive to be like her.

Dawn at A Blessed Homeschool Life. Dawn has had her share of difficulties with raising special needs children, but she always parents with love and heart, which also shows in every post. I feel honored to count her among my friends.

Patty at Reasons for Chocolate. She always inspires me in her faith and devotion as a mother.
Jessy at Our Side of the Mountain. She is celebrating a particularly special Mother's Day this year as she is getting married. Happy Mother's Day and Happy Wedding, Jessy!

Marie at Marie's Pastiche. Marie is always coming up with wonderful learning experiences for her children and her niece and nephew! She inspires me as a mother and teacher.

Karen at HomeSchool Girls. Just one look at Karen and her beautiful daughter will show you what a wonderful mom Karen is. She has a awe-inspiring relationship with her teenaged daughter and the love she has just pours on to the pages of her blog.

Are there some mothers out there that you would like to celebrate?
If so, feel free to send them a Best Mom Award, and mention them in the comments.

Happy Mother's Day!

super-sweet-blogging-award

Sylvia from Living and Learning With Our New Normalwas “sweet” enough to include On The Mend in her list of nominees for the, Super Sweet Blogging Award! Since I only blog about my illness here, I thought it better to post about the award on the parent blog, All Things Beautiful. Thank you again Sylvia for all your sweet support and for the chance to thank everyone who has been so kind to me. Now, according the rules I’ll need to pick 13 other sweet bloggers and answer the Super Sweet Questionnaire below!

Awards from Sylvia of Living and Learning with Our New Normal

I have been honored today by not one, but three awards! I know that many bloggers out there don't accept awards, but to me it is a very sincere expression of thanks and as that I cannot do anything but accept the kindness and pass it on to others in the same spirit.
Thank you so much Sylvia of Living and Learning with Our New Normal. Sylvia has been homeschooling her 9 awesome children ages 36 down to 10 since 1984. I think her subheading says it all...
"Coping with the Challenges of Pediatric Brain Cancer, Autism and a Severe Seizure Disorder Make Every Day a Lesson in Patience, Unconditional Love, Faith, and Reliance on God."

Now to the requirements of the awards...
1) What is your earliest memory?
That is hard to say....I have very few really early memories. I guess the one memory from before I went to school was when a puppy found its way to under a seldom-used truck in our yard. I started crying because my was so sure my parents wouldn't let us keep him. I was crying so hard that they couldn't understand what I was saying and was sure that something horrible had happened to me or one of my siblings. By the time I was calm enough that they could understand me, they felt they had to keep the puppy. He was the wonderful dog of my childhood.
2) What is your favorite out door activity?
Nature walks! Just sitting somewhere beautiful and soaking in all the peace and contentment and sketching whatever catches my interest.
3) What is your favorite cause?
That is hard to say, as I am not too interested in political issues. I would have to say that informing people about the possible connection between vaccinations and autism would have to be my top cause, if I had to pick one.
4) What is your favorite charity?
Again, I am not too much into such things, but I believe strongly in helping those around you, if you can. Looking out and giving to those who touch your lives the best charity.
5) What job is your dream job?
Teaching my kids! Oh, yeah, that is my job, isn't it? Oh, I am pretty lucky to be able to work my dream job every day!
6) What is your favorite song?
Awesome God, Rich Mullins

  7) What is your favorite movie?
A Beautiful Mind

8) Do you have any phobias? If so please tell us what they are!
I am and have always been afraid of the dark. I am a bit agoraphobic as well.
9) What is your favorite animal?
Rabbits and Giraffes.
10) What is your favorite flower?
Pansies, Violets and Roses.
11) If you could live anywhere you wanted to, where would that be?
That would be hard to say. I love the US from Four Corner's deserts to the mountains of Tennessee, however we live in a beautiful place right now, don't you think?
Now to passing on these awards...

beautiful-blogger-award
Now to the requirements to accept these awards...
Post a collection of some of your favorite photos you have taken and tell us why they are your favorite. What do they say about you and what you value?
And be sure to pass on the awards to others, as an act of kindness!

I love the fellowship of like-minded people and I love the sharing of creative ideas that enrich our homeschool.

2. What piece of blogging advice can you offer?
I am not sure that I am qualified to give blogging advice, however, since you have asked me, I will say, "Stay real" is my best blogging advice. People want to see you as you really are.

3. What is your favorite reading material?
I read a wide variety of things, but mostly they relate to our schooling, even if it is something I do not plan to share with the boys.

4. Do you have a particular song or a kind of music that really means a lot to you...lifts your spirits, gets you moving, touches you in some way? If so, what is it and why does it have meaning for you?
I love Rich Mullens' spirituality. I really like Toby Keith's "I want to talk about me." It always makes me smile.

5. Are you a person who likes to spend a lot of time preparing a meal, or does good and simple do it for you?
Simple is nice, but I want our meals to be special, and if that means a lot of preparation time, then I usually try to include the boys. I want the whole experience to be with the whole family.

6. What is your personal style/favorite way of dressing?
Casual, comfortable and practical. I want to be able to play and learn with the boys and not worry about getting messed up. I do like skirts, too, though, because they are feminine.

Patience. Organization. Slowing down.

8. What is the quality about yourself that you like best?
Adaptability.

9. What is an important life lesson you've learned that you'd be willing to share?
I don't have a specific story, but I continually learn the lesson that you cannot judge others until you have walked in their shoes.

10. From your perspective, what are the most important traits in a friend?
Loyalty. Kindness.

11. What is your idea of a perfect day?
Going somewhere new with my family so they all can enjoy themselves. Spending this time with no worries.

Liebster Blog Award

I have met so many wonderful people through blogging. I am continually amazed with the support that's out there. One form of support are blog awards and the Liebster Blog Award because of its requirements, is purely kind support.  I am pleased to receive the Liebster Blog Award from Dinosaurs and Octopuses. Thank you so much, Joyce! I appreciate you thinking of me.
"Liebster is a German word, meaning dearest or beloved, but it can also mean favorite. The idea behind the Liebster Blog Award is that it is given to bloggers who have less than 200 followers in order to create new connections and bring attention to these wonderful blogs!"

The rules are:
Add the award to your blog.
Thank the giver with a link back to them.
List your top 5 picks and let them know they've been given an award by leaving a comment on their blog.
Hope that your followers will spread the love to the blogs you've spotlighted.

So now's the time for me to show my support and spread the love with this award. Here's my five!

Please give them a visit, enjoy their blogs and tell them that I sent you.

Premio Nice Blog Award from Leptir Montessori Blog

Leptir Montessori Blog gave me the honor of a Premio Nice Blog Award.
I love how blogging can make the world more connected. Leptir Montessori Blog is from Croatia. She recieved the award from Feliz Mamá (Somos una familia, nos queremos mucho...) which is a blog in Mexico.

Thank you very much for this award, Leptir. You all should pop over to see all the lovely Montessori activities she shares.
This award has 2 rules:
specify 3 songs that are important to you, and
tell what you dreamed about.
I am not the best person to ask these questions as I don't listen to many songs. I guess I would say that I like Rich Mullins the best, and so you could pick any three of his songs off his CD Songs. (This link will take you to clips of the songs.)
As far as dreams go, if you are talking about dreaming at night, I don't remember my dreams and if you are talking about dreams as in asperations, I am pretty content where I am right now.

Blogs I am passing this award on to anyone who would like this award.
Just write up a post with the answers to the questions above and it is yours.

Thank the person(s) who nominated you and link back up them.

Things About Me
One nice thing about the awards process is that you learn that the people who have the blogs you like often have things in common with you. In honor of that, my Things About Me are like Our Side of the Mountain's list:
I WOULD LIKE TO live with my family on a rutted dirt road in the middle of the woods. Although there are several other houses in the neighborhood, we might only see 3-4 vehicles drive by ALL day. I am hoping we will have a place like this when we move.
I grew up on an island off the coast of Maine the Chesapeake Bay. My Dad was a lobsterman waterman (crabber, fisherman and oysterman) and, while I was young, my Mom picked crabmeat.
I enjoy reading historical fiction...from the young adult (i.e. TEENAGE) section in the library. I even really like the pre-teen section.

Sweet!

Keeping It Simple gave me a sweet surprise!
Thank you so much!

Stylish Blogger Award from Our Side of the Mountain

Our Side of the Mountain blessed me with a Stylish blogger Award today. I feel particularly blessed because the award comes from a blogger whom I very much respect.
She participates in many of the same activities that our family does, such as nature study (Outdoor Hour), Science Sunday and Snapshot Summary. Our families do similar activities both during school time and just for fun {not that I am so sure what the difference is any more. : ) }

Of course there are those rules for acceptance. I can't possibly think of seven new things about me worth mentioning. (Gee, you guys already know me better than my mother does.) So, anyway, I thought I would take Our Side of the Mountain's lead and modify her list to fit me. You may have seen some of them before, but then maybe not. See what you think:
7 Things About Me
1. I live in rural Maryland, in a small town, near the beach, on the Chesapeake Bay.
2. I hope to spend more time learning and practicing photography, particularly kids and nature.
3. I enjoy camping and going for strolls in the woods with my kids, but since I have had to be in a wheelchair, that has made those times more rare. Surprisingly, there are some paved parks with woods.
4. I am the youngest of 3 children (two brothers) and grew up near open fields and rivers.
5. My Dad was a Maryland waterman and my Mom picked crabmeat when I grew up.
6. I have 4 cats (or at least my daughter does)...5 kids and 1 husband.
7. I like to read my daughter's library books
See, I told you we had a lot in common. Go on over to Our Side of the Mountain and compare notes.  How close would you come?
Now for the blogs I am passing this on to. (Remember you wonderful bloggers that I love that if I have already given you one, I feel I must pass the love around and give it to someone new, so don't feel slighted. I still love ya. But if I forget that I have already given you one, just take it and smile about my absent-mindedness.)

Blog Award from Early Childhood Education...

Ewa (Eve) from Early Education - Antek and Kuba Exploring the World gave me this award, which was quite a pleasant surprise as I had not seen her blog before. When I popped over there I found a wonderful blog full of a variety of activities for young children. I particularly liked the little videos she has of her son completing the projects she has described. He is a bright little boy! I also appreciate her thoughts on education, such as exposing even the youngest children to beautiful works of art.

Now, to the rules for acceptance...

The Versatile Blogger Award from Lady Chadwick's Weblog

Lady Chadwick's Weblog just honored me with The Versatile Blogger Award. She describes her blog as a "blog about my homeschool, education, music and whatever else suits my fancy.," which explains how she recieved the Versatile Blogger Award herself. One of the things I like most about her blog is that it has a homey feel and she honestly portays her family and her school. She sometimes talks about things that don't turn out exactly the way she had planned, but she always talks about it in a positive light. I feel like I am at her kitchen table discussing all sort of topics. Thank you so much, Lady Chadwick, for this award. It means a lot to me.
Okay, so now down to the nuts and bolts...
Rules for acceptance are:
Thank and link back to whomever gave you the award. (check)
Share 7 things about yourself
1. When I was young I wanted to be a forensic entomologist. (That was before forensics were in,)
2. Even though I wanted to be a scientist, I was discouraged from it because I was so bad at math. Wasn't until later I found out that I had dyscalcula.
3. I dislike cell phones. (Even though we have them.)
4. I am tone deaf.
5. I owned ponies when I was little, including a Chincoteague pony.
6. I wrote and sold my own newsletter in high school called The Pink Stallion, named after a painting on the wall of my room, which was painted by my best friend.
7. I was twelve before I had had my first taste of cotton candy.
Pass it along to some blogs (15 suggested) you enjoy and feel are versatile bloggers...
Leave your recipients a note telling them about the award. Try not to use anyone you have awarded before.

Here's mine:
Three lovely things:
1. Family; I have the best husband one could ever have and five lovely kids. What can get more lovely than that?
2. Friends: starting with my best friend I have had since I was twelve years old to my new blog friends, I have been blessed with the best.
3. Being able to live the life I have. I am thankful every day for it.
I have written before about some all-time favorite blogs,(here and here) so I won't mention them again. Here are some of my new favorites.
1. Sea Kettle Diaries. Kerrie shares her life, which includes a husband she adores, a job teaching art to children and homemaking in an 1811 house in New England. Her posts are always a treat to read.
2. Adventures in Mommydom Ticia is a very encouraging and genuine person who is not afraid to show the real side of homeschooling and mothering.
3. Almota Roses shares beautiful photography and a beautiful outlook on life.
