Summer Fun #88: Decorate Walking Sticks

If you plan to do any hiking this summer or fall, decorating your own walking sticks can be fun.

All you need for this project is one 3/4″ x 48″ wooden dowel from the hardware store per person (No cutting or sanding required.), a variety of decorative Washi tape options, assorted gems and glue and any other decorations you desire.
Cut pieces of duct tape (a corkboard duct tape was particularly popular with my kids)...

and wrap around your stick.

Leave the rest to your kids imaginations.
You can use other materials to wrap around the stick and you can glue crystals or other items to the top of the stick.

Now they are ready to use for hiking!

  1. It's good to see that your teens are not "above" good old family fun.

    1. I am blessed by good sports. Perhaps it is because of my oldest, who is now in her twenties and is still willing to do this type crafts.

  3. Crystals are always a great touch.

My boys get to make walking sticks at camp most years, including cutting the stick down.

    1. That would be the best. We were so busy, I wanted to make it a quick craft.
