Book Club: My Side of the Mountain Scenario: part 2: The Crash

  • Read My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George: I Get Started on This Venture.

As you approach the Catskill Mountains, your plan has developed a flutter on the right aileron. The ailerons are used to keep the plane level and provide steering while in flight. Unfortunately the aileron flutter interferes with the airflow over the wind. Proper airflow is needed to create the forces that lift the plane into the air. Your plane has lost much of its lift ad has crashed into the tops of the trees on a mountainside.
  • Research the parts of a plane and how forces work with the plane's design to keep the air in flight.
  • Write, draw or act out the plane crash, beginning with the pilot announcing that there is engine trouble and that they will have to attempt a crash landing on the mountainside.
