This Moment, A Little Ride Down to the Beach Edition and Snapshot Summary, week 29, May 7-11

{this moment}

A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments at SouleMama.

Snapshot Summary, May 7-11

Geography

We took another look at Missouri because the Hutchins of Little Homeschool on the Prairie sent us a postcard from Missouri. We enjoyed ice cream cones and Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake to celebrate this state.

We also learned about Idaho and had a Baked Potato bar dinner to celebrate.

History

We learned about
The Alamo (1836),
the Mexican-American War (1846–48),
and the 8th and 9th Presidents, Martin Van Buren and William Henry Harrison

Science

We had fun with some rock cycle projects, using sugar cubes,
fudge ingredients,
and crayons.

Math

We had fun with Base Ten Unifix patterns.
He explored the number six today.
He just picks a number to explore and adds the cubes to the place value board in groups of that number. Once he reaches ten cubes on the right-hand side, he snaps them together and puts them on the left-hand side.
Here is his cubes once he had added 6 five times.

He makes a record as he works independently, adding one group at a time.

Reading

We are reading...

 and

The Bobbsey Twins Series

Mother's Day was spent at my mother's house, where we also saw my brother Phil and my sister-in-law, Brenda.

  2. The Alamo Box Car book was good, wasn't it?

What a fun week -- love the messy chocolate photo. I always say this, but you inspire me to be and do more with my kids. Thank you!

  4. Reading about your weeks are always one of my favorite 'blog readings' to do. You just cram so much fun into your weeks. I love the picture of a chocolate covered boy. I have many pictures like that of Keilee. :)

The Bobbsey Twins!! Oh my gosh I used to love those books when I was very young. I think those were the first books I ever read that was a series. I tried to read them to Keilee years ago but she wasn't interested. :)

  5. I think we'll get to the Alamo next year when we study American history...I'll have to try and remember that there is a Boxcar Children book that takes place there, assuming my kids don't lose interest in those books by next spring-ish. My daughter has been obsessed with them for months and now my five year old has taken an interest in them as well. :-)
