Summer Fun #52: Ice Cube Boats

Ahoy, Matey! We have a wonderfully cool time with ice boats this morning.
I love this simple idea from Alpha Mom. All you need is a plastic cup, a bendable straw, tape, paper, scissors and optionally, a hole punch.

First bend your straw and tape the short end to the bottom of your cup. (You might need to trim the straw to make it fit properly.) I put a piece of tape over the top of the cup to keep the straw coming straight out of the cup. Put some water in the cup with water and let it freeze for a few hours.

After it has frozen, run water on the outside of the cup to loosen the ice or just split the cup with scissors. Cut a sail from construction paper and use a hole punch to make two holes for the straw or just tape it on.

Now, go float your boat!

A few pirates are always fun!

They don't last too long, especially on these hot days, but they are some cool fun while they last!

  1. We will definitely try this! Fun!

  2. What a great idea. Certainly the right time of year to give this one a go.

  3. How fun! Might be even better if we add some food coloring to the ice. Gotta try it once we are back from our travels.

  4. What a simple, fun idea. I can see getting out the Lego pirate figures and letting them sail the high seas!

  5. Way fun...I know some girls who would love this one...

  6. What a fun idea! Sunnyboy would love this! :)

  7. We'll have to try this one out.

  8. What fun! I so need to try these.

  9. Just calling by again to let you know I featured your post here: http://sunnydaytodaymama.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/all-year-round-week-seventeen-7-summer.html Thanks so much for sharing all your wonderful summer ideas with the All Year Round Carnival. :)
