Summer Fun #44: Almost-All-Indoors Campout

Today we went camping without leaving the house. It was so much fun! Here is our day of Almost-All-Indoors Campout.

Swimming at "Lake Bergenholtz"
A little time for an outside swim. We never set up our pool this year because we expected to move, but the boys' Godmother sent them a smaller version for them to have some splashing fun in.

If you don't have a pool, you can have fun with just a hose, (then it would be a "waterfall") but don't stay out too long in this heat.

Twizzler's Snakes
For a camp activity, we made Twizzlers snakes. They are a variation on the Twizzler's bracelets I saw at Quirky Momma, fashioned a bit more for boys. We made them with soft jewlery wire and Twizzler's candy cut into about 1 inch segments. Loop the wire back at the ends, and you have a candy snake! You could substitue just about any craft you prefer.

S'mores Cookie Bars
S'mores are all the rage this year, and so you can find many variations on this American favorite.
The boys and I made S'mores Cookie Bars this morning before it got too hot, but we waited until later to eat them.
Or, if you would like the plain ole s'mores, you can toast marshmallows under the broiler for about 2-3 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet. That is all the time it takes, and because it is such a short time, it doesn't heat up the house too much.

Indoor Campout

The grand finale of the indoor campout is pumping up the camping air mattresses and spreading them around the living room. There we can tell scary stories, sing songs and tell jokes.
You don't even have to apply bug spray.

And if you want a not-so-real campfire to lend the atmosphere, No Time for Flashcards has instructions on how to make one. Frugal Family Fun also has instructions on how to make pretend S'mores for the not-so-real campfire. And if you want a mini version for your dolls, WhiMSy love will show you how.
