Snapshot Summary August 2-7

Monday: Today we had a science experiment marathon. Katie made stone soup with the little boys, just like the book. We received a postcard from Taiwan.

Tuesday: Schoolwork about castles... ...play about castles...and more play about castles, called rooks this time.

Wednesday: Today Quentin added to the postcard/geography album. Italy, this time. The little boys played imaginary games with blocks, chess pieces and plastic men.The little boys played restaurant with wooden and plastic food, and made up a menu.
Sam read and wrote out variations for a game. Alex watched The Magic School Bus and School House Rock. Katie and I made Greek Orzo Salad (for the vegetarian), Beef Stroganoff and Green Beans with new potatoes from Katie's garden. The little boys drew pictures and made a picture frame out of cardboard and construction paper.
All the boys swam in the pool. A lot. It is summer, after all.

Thursday:The biggest thing that has happened here today is that Quentin has lost the second of his two front teeth...a bittersweet reminder that my baby is growing up. We have gotten pretty far on our piece of the Bayeux Tapestry... with everyone working on it a little bit at a time. Although the boys spent the morning at the park with friends, in the afternoon, we worked on reading... and writing lessons. Katie is making a chess set for the boys, starting with the pikemen or pawns. This inspired Quentin to get out the play dough... and make some figures of his own. Steven made little Shepard's Pies and I made Tortellini Salad for dinner. And of course, swimming in the pool for the boys between each of the above activities.

Friday: Katie reviewed all she taught them about sandcastles today. She also added the rooks and kings to the chess set she is making for the boys. She also picked a small bouquet of flowers as she mail this week's postcards. The boys worked on their picture study of Giotto's works.

Saturday: Betterton Day, which is our town's celebration. It's biggest claim to fame is "Cow Plop" Bingo in which the winners are determined by where the cow plops in its pen. What more can I tell you?
