Beginning Music Theory: Piano, Forte

A good early music theory lesson is to teach terms and these first two do not require an instrument! The terms forte (loud) and piano (soft) can be demonstrated with hands, either clapping or tapping a tabletop and children have a lot of fun demonstrating them, especially forte! For beginning lessons on a piano, they also can learn that in numbering their fingers, they need to start (1) with the thumb on each finger. Trace their hands on a piece of paper and have them number them correctly.
